1 Nephi 14:7

Nephi's vision continues...

The angel tells Nephi about a great and marvelous work that will be done in the last days. We know that this is the restoration of the gospel, the church of Christ, and missionary work or the gathering of Israel. He describes the work as everlasting, which means that it will not stop. Here is a familiar quote that confirms the everlastingness of the work:

“The Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done” (History of the Church, 4:540).

We also know that this work involves missionary work, because after the angel announced that the great and marvelous work would take place, he says that the work will be either unto the convincing of them unto peace and life eternal or delivering them to the hardness of their hearts, the blindness of their minds, unto their being brought down into captivity of the devil and destruction, both temporally and spiritually.
