1 Nephi 15:1-3

Nephi's vision is complete. Afterward, he returns to the tent of his father. He encounters his brethren disputing the things that Lehi testified and prophesied to them. Being that many things were hard to understand and that Laman and Lemuel were not righteous most of the time, they did not think to do things like Nephi and ask of the Lord.

This brings me to a question. When the prophet speaks to us and we encounter a commandment that is hard for us to understand and do, do we think to ask of the Lord? In fact, this is what we should do when the prophet gives us a commandment. We need to be on the same page as him. This is done be praying and asking God for confirmation that the commandment is for us. When we do this we gain a testimony of that commandment, thus being more converted to the gospel, and in a position to receive more and higher commandments.
